The vintage names — Roger Staubach's 1972 cards, Tony Dorsett's 1978 rookie — predate overproduction, so survival and centering do the work. The late-'80s and '90s dynasty core — Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin, all with 1989–1990 rookie years — landed squarely in the mass-production era, so those cards are everywhere and grade is the whole story. The modern roster (Prescott 2016, Lamb 2020, Parsons 2021) is printed in volume as well, which is why value sits in numbered parallels, on-card autographs, and premium inserts rather than base cards.

One licensing note that explains a lot of the modern shelf: NFL trading-card rights ran exclusively through Panini for the 2016–2025 seasons, so nearly every Cowboys rookie in that window appears in Panini brands (Prizm, Donruss, Select, Optic, Contenders, National Treasures). Before that the market was open, with Topps as its backbone for decades, and from the 2026 season the license moves to Topps under Fanatics.
